School Age Teacher North Hollywood – General Child Care Teacher

Join Volunteers of America Los Angeles (VOALA) as a school age teacher in the North Hollywood area. VOALA is a nonprofit dedicated to serving vulnerable populations, strengthening families, and building communities.

Pay Rate: $24.44 – $25.73 per hour.

Through our General Child Care programs, we work with children ages 2–10 and their families to provide the skills, confidence and stable home life necessary for a smooth transition into kindergarten and beyond. Children also receive health services including screenings, immunization maintenance, nutrition assessments, mental health assessments, and determination of any developmental delays.

• Implement the program curriculum for children enrolled in morning and afternoon classes. Plan individual and group activities to stimulate learning and promote parent involvement.
• Provide a learning environment that supports child development socially, emotionally, intellectually and physically, in accordance with the child’s age and stage.
• Conduct daily classroom planning, maintain child records with the co‑teacher, and submit accurate monthly paperwork on time.
• Observe, screen, and assess child development level and develop individualized goals.
• Provide activities that enhance the role of parents as primary educators.
• Ensure the classroom reflects the diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds of the children.
• Collect anecdotal observations for DRDP assessments.
• Create a classroom environment following guidelines of ITERS, ECERS and SACERS.
• Comply with regulations of Title V, Title 22 and Community Care licensing.

• Must pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications.
• TB clearance within 6 months prior.
• Annual influenza vaccination (Nov. 1 – Mar. 31).
• Pertussis and measles immunization.
• Health screening at the time of employment.
• Ability to interact with children in a busy environment, lift up to 50 lbs, frequently kneel and squat, and move quickly.

• AA degree in Child Development or a related field.
• 24 ECE/CD units.
• Child Development Permit.

• 2 years of teaching experience.
• 1 year of supervision experience.

• Bachelor’s degree in Child Development or a related field.
• Management coursework.
• 4 years of teaching experience.
• Creative curriculum experience.
• Knowledge of licensing regulations.
• Bilingual English and Spanish (written and verbal).
