Under close supervision, to learn and perform the maintenance of a turbo-electric generating plant and to do related work as required.
To learn and perform in the various areas of the Power Plant including the typical maintenance of Power Plant equipment and the systems; cleans mechanical equipment; applies protective coatings to various equipment surfaces; changes lubricants and gaskets; operates hand and power tools; tightens or loosens joints and fittings; assists mechanics in the assembly or disassembly of Power Plant equipment; assists welders, journeyman and operation personnel as assigned;
on assignment makes minor repairs alone; handles and stores all plant materials; maintains records and reports as required.
Ability to learn the maintenance of the Power Plant equipment; willingly work in the Power Plant environment; complete the Burbank Power Plant Maintenance Training Program; establish and maintain effective working relationship with supervisors, fellow employees, and the public.
Special Conditions & Requirements:Positions allocated to this classification are in a training capacity for Power Plant Utility Worker. Maximum time for completion of the training program is 24 months. Trainees may be terminated from employment at any time during the training period for failure to maintain satisfactory progress. An extension of the 24-month training period may be considered when all Power Plant Utility Worker positions are filled.
Successful completion of the training program will qualify an individual to take the examination for Power Plant Utility Worker. Continued employment is not guaranteed if there are no vacant positions after an extension of the 24-month training period.
Employees in this classification, who are required by applicable laws and regulations to have respiratory protection, shall comply with the American National Standards Institute’s requirements on Practices for Respiratory Protection.
Education/Training:Graduation from high school or equivalent at time of appointment.
A valid California Class "C" driver's license or equivalent may be required at time of appointment.
