OverviewThe Media Technician supports the day-to-day coordination, organization, and long-term preservation of incoming and outgoing media within MAX Post’s post-production operations, working on-site at our Burbank, California facility. This role is responsible for the accurate receipt, cataloging, tracking, and archiving of media assets to ensure accessibility, integrity, and compliance with company standards.
Key Responsibilities- Receive incoming library and media assets while accurately cataloging associated technical data and metadata to support accessibility and retrieval.
- Ingest footage, audio, and graphics from client drives, camera cards, and file transfers.
- Maintain strict adherence to internal guidelines for consistent labeling, folder structure, and
- documentation across all media assets.
- Familiarity with legacy videotape-based media assets and related digitization workflows is a plus.
- Track assets using spreadsheets, database applications, or asset management systems.
- Safely move, copy, and back up files between servers, LTOs, and external drives.
- Run digital workflows to support the archival or restoration of raw and transcoded media.
- Familiarity with archive tools such as LTO workflows, MHL verification, and manifest generation is a plus.
- Log and barcode all incoming and outgoing hard drives, tapes, and LTOs, ensuring proper labeling, chain-of-custody documentation, secure storage, and traceable access.
- Manage the physical vault and digital archive, ensuring order, cleanliness, and accurate documentation.
- Collaborate with internal departments to implement standardized, long-term preservation strategies.
- Coordinate with clients and couriers for pick-ups, drop-offs, and drive returns.
- Plan and coordinate small-scale project initiatives, including timelines, milestones, and completion dates.
- Meet departmental goals for responsiveness, communication, and team collaboration.
- Uphold company standards regarding content security and confidentiality.
- Support assistant editors, engineers, and post managers as needed.
- 2+ years of experience in post-production, media operations, or a related technical environment.
- Proficiency with both PC and Mac systems, database applications, and Microsoft/Google suite tools.
- Familiarity with editing platforms (Avid, Premiere) and Avid NEXIS shared storage.
- Understanding of common file formats, codecs, resolutions, and frame rates.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and documentation skills.
- Understanding of HD and 4K media workflows and file-based post-production processes.
- Physical media handling is required, including lifting, shelving, and organizing assets (up to ~40 lbs).
- Experience with Avid Media Central UX (Interplay), Content Agent, Storage
DNA, Telestream workflows, Zytech Media Pulse, SF Archive, Spectra Logic or Qualstar tape libraries, and Crystal Onyx. - Knowledge of archival best practices, metadata cataloging, and long-term media preservation strategies.
