Some Jobs Are About Selling Something. This One Is About Getting People to Care.Every day, people around the world are dealing with crises most of us only encounter through headlines.
Conflict. Displacement. Hunger. Natural disasters. Inequality. Communities struggling to access food, healthcare, safety and basic human rights.
Behind those headlines are real people - and organizations working every day to help.
Your job is to get people to stop, listen and care enough to take action.
Public Outreach is hiring passionate, outgoing people to join our
North Hollywood fundraising team
, representing nonprofit organizations working on humanitarian relief, human rights and social-impact issues.
You’ll speak directly with members of the public, tell the stories behind important causes, and inspire people to become long‑term monthly donors.
No fundraising experience is required.
What matters more is that you can connect with people, communicate with conviction and aren’t afraid to stand up for something you believe in.
What You’ll Actually Be Fighting ForThe nonprofit campaigns our teams represent address some of the world’s most urgent challenges.
Depending on your campaign, you could be raising awareness and support for work involving:
- Emergency humanitarian and disaster response
- Hunger, food insecurity and access to clean water
- Refugees and communities displaced by conflict
- Healthcare and support for vulnerable communities
- Human rights and equality
- Women, children and families facing poverty or crisis
Campaign assignments can change, but the purpose of the work doesn’t:
Helping nonprofit organizations build the public support they need to keep doing their work.
We’ll give you the training, campaign knowledge and coaching you need to represent each organization confidently and accurately.
What You’ll DoThis isn’t a desk job.
You’ll work outdoors with a partner or team in busy areas throughout Los Angeles, starting conversations with people from all walks of life.
You’ll learn how to:
- Approach someone you’ve never met and earn their attention
- Turn complicated global issues into conversations people understand
- Tell powerful stories without sounding scripted
- Ask thoughtful questions and genuinely listen
- Explain how nonprofit organizations create change
- Inspire someone to go from caring about an issue to actually supporting it
- Confidently ask people to become monthly donors
- Handle rejection, learn from feedback and keep going
You’re not expected to know how to do all of this on your first day.
That’s what paid training and coaching are for.
You Might Be Great at This If…You’re the person who actually wants to talk about what’s happening in the world.
Maybe you’ve volunteered, organized, advocated for something you believe in, studied social issues, worked with people, performed on stage, taught, served tables, led a team – or you’re simply very good at connecting with strangers.
Backgrounds that often translate well include:
- Advocacy and community organizing
- Theatre, music and performing arts
- Hospitality and customer service
- Teaching, childcare and education
- Retail and sales
- Public speaking
- Community outreach
But none of those are requirements.
We’re much more interested in whether you’re
curious, resilient, coachable and comfortable talking to people.
We’d rather be upfront about that.
Street fundraising is active, outdoor and performance-based.
You’ll spend much of your shift standing, walking and approaching people you don’t know.
Some people will be excited to talk to…
