Responsibilities

At Castaway, the dishwasher is a critical member of the kitchen team, responsible for maintaining a clean and organized kitchen and ensuring that all dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment are cleaned and sanitized to the highest standards. The essential job duties of a dishwasher at Castaway Restaurant may include:

• Operating and maintaining dishwashing equipment:
  This involves loading and unloading dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and other kitchen equipment into the dishwasher and ensuring that the machine is operating properly. Dishwashers must also be able to troubleshoot and fix any issues that may arise with the machine.

• Sorting and organizing dishes:
  Dishwashers must be able to sort dishes and utensils into appropriate categories to ensure that they are cleaned properly. This may involve sorting by size, shape, or material, and also involves ensuring that dishes are properly loaded into the machine to maximize efficiency.

• Cleaning and sanitizing dishes:
  Dishwashers are responsible for ensuring that all dishes and utensils are cleaned and sanitized to the highest standards. This involves using detergents and sanitizers, as well as hot water and high-pressure sprayers, to remove any food particles and kill any bacteria.

• Maintaining a clean and organized workspace:
  Dishwashers are responsible for keeping the kitchen area clean and organized. This may involve sweeping, mopping, and wiping down counters and equipment, as well as ensuring that all dishes are put away in their proper place.

• Assisting kitchen staff as needed:
  Dishwashers may be called upon to assist with various tasks in the kitchen, such as food prep or plating dishes, during busy times.

• Adhering to health and safety regulations:
  Dishwashers must adhere to health and safety regulations at all times, including wearing appropriate protective gear such as gloves and aprons, and ensuring that all dishes are properly cleaned and sanitized to prevent the spread of disease.

Pay: $18 / hour

This is a physically demanding role that requires attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Successful candidates for the dishwasher position at Castaway Restaurant will be reliable, hardworking, and committed to maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen.

• Frequent lifting, moving and carrying of plate ware, cleaning equipment, garbage etc. weighing up to 50 pounds in the back-of-house
• Regular and prolonged standing and walking to wash dishes, move garbage, etc.
• Occasional ascending/descending stairs across the restaurant to deliver food, pick up dirty dishware, etc.
• Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers
• Frequent use of hand to finger motions, handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms
• Constant bending, stooping and turning to place dishes in machine, etc.
• Constant exposure to hot and damp temperature fluctuations
