Job Title: Learning Support Assistant (Special Needs School)

Location: Just outside of Burgess Hill

Hours: 8:30am – 4:30pm, Monday to Friday

Pay: £102.68 per day

Contract: Compassionate leave cover until Christmas (potential to extend for the right candidate)

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a welcoming special needs school. This is a rewarding opportunity to support secondary-aged students with autism
, helping them to access learning, develop life skills, and thrive in a supportive environment.

The role is initially to cover compassionate leave until Christmas
, with the possibility of extension for the right person who demonstrates commitment, flexibility, and genuine passion for working with young people with additional needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one‑to‑one and small group support for students with autism and other additional needs.

  • Work under the guidance of class teachers to adapt learning activities to suit individual needs.

  • Assist with the development of communication, social, and independence skills.

  • Support students with emotional regulation and behaviour management in line with school policies.

  • Encourage and promote a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment.

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students, staff, and families.

  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally in a SEN or autism‑specific setting.

  • Patience, empathy, and resilience.

  • Ability to adapt to individual learning needs and communicate effectively.

  • A genuine interest in supporting the progress and wellbeing of young people.
