Position: Senior Rail Construction Manager )

Senior Rail Construction Manager

Full-time, regular position located in Burlington, Ontario, reporting to the Group Lead. The role focuses on leading the delivery of freight rail construction projects across the province and eastern Canada.

Responsibilities
  • Promote and oversee implementation of health and safety regulations.
  • Provide Construction Project Management and oversight during construction.
  • Administer the construction phase of a project, including budgeting and scheduling.
  • Manage a multi‑discipline design team to produce high-quality deliverables, meet schedules, and stay within project budgets.
  • Provide oversight and be responsible for projects and the work of multiple teams.
  • Ensure the successful delivery of projects, including oversight of risks and issues.
  • Apply thorough and consistent methodology to project deliverables and quality of submissions.
  • Build strong working relationships with the client to ensure high‑quality work throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure all project deliverables are complete and compliant with the client’s quality requirements and checklists.
  • Manage day‑to‑day activities of the project team and subcontractors.
  • Represent HDR at meetings, presentations, and address issues raised by the client.
  • Respond to the client in a timely manner.
  • Mentor project management and junior staff.
  • Report on project performance to HDR senior management.
  • Manage project risks and mitigate those risks promptly to minimize impact on project performance.
  • Incorporate lessons learned into ongoing and future projects.
  • Engage in business development and proposal activities.
  • Travel to projects across the province and eastern Canada for extended periods of time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge and ability to utilize required computer software such as MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with MS Project or Primavera (P6).
  • Sound knowledge of OPS specifications and standard drawings, TAC standards, Metrolinx and AREMA design standards.
  • Ability to interpret and apply transportation construction practices, procedures, and quality assurance techniques.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations (Environmental, Health and Safety, etc.) and their application in construction contracts.
  • Ability to interpret construction critical‑path schedules.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including independent report and correspondence writing.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and scheduling skills.
  • Analytical problem‑solving abilities.
  • Proven leadership experience.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and access to a reliable vehicle.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Construction Science or a closely related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in various aspects of construction planning and management, including construction contracts, document, time, cost, and quality management, change management, estimating, bidding, purchase orders, subcontracts, scheduling, and cost control.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with construction management software such as Procore, Prolog, Primavera, Bluebeam, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with owners, engineers, contractors, and other project stakeholders.

  • Pay range: $147,000 – $197,000 (Burlington, ON).
