French IB PYP Teacher

Position Summary:

We are seeking a passionate, innovative, and experienced French Language Teacher to join our IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the PYP framework, a strong command of the French language, and a commitment to fostering a dynamic, inclusive, and inquiry-based learning environment for students from JK to Grade 8.

Key Responsibilities:

Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging French language lessons aligned with IB PYP standards and the school’s scope and sequence.
Develop transdisciplinary units that encourage students to make connections between subjects and apply their learning in real-world contexts.
Integrate language instruction into the transdisciplinary units of inquiry wherever possible.
Foster a positive, communicative, and immersive French language environment in the classroom.
Instructional Excellence   Use a variety of teaching strategies to support different learning styles and abilities.
Employ formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and inform instruction.
Encourage student agency, creativity, and critical thinking through interactive and authentic learning experiences.
Assessment and Reporting:
Conduct ongoing formative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
Prepare and maintain accurate records of student performance and provide detailed feedback to students and parents.
Engage in regular summative assessments, ensuring alignment with IB PYP standards and the school's assessment policy.
Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom culture.
Build strong relationships with students to support their academic, social, and emotional development.
Provide additional support for students who may need it, including differentiation and extra practice as required.
Collaborate with homeroom teachers, specialists, and the PYP Coordinator to ensure consistency in teaching and learning.
Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, classroom activities, and French language development.
Participate in school events, meetings, and professional development initiatives.
Professional Commitment   Stay up to date with developments in the IB PYP framework and best practices in language instruction.
Reflect on and improve personal teaching practices through ongoing professional learning.
Qualifications and

Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Education or equivalent; specialization in French or French Education preferred
Fluency in French and English (oral and written)
OCT certification or equivalent teaching credential
IB PYP training and/or experience strongly preferred
Minimum 5 years teaching French at the elementary level
Strong understanding of inquiry-based and student-centered learning
Passion for teaching and working with young children
Strong organizational and time management skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Adaptability, creativity, and a collaborative spirit
Commitment to continuous improvement and reflective practice
