Job Summary
The Design Engineer – OHE is responsible for preparing and reviewing technical designs, layouts, and drawings for Overhead Electrification works in railway projects. The role includes development of detailed plans for OHE structures, wiring schemes, and clearances, using AutoCAD and other relevant design tools, in line with Indian Railways, RDSO, and CORE standards.

Roles And Responsibilities

Prepare and update detailed OHE drawings including layout plans, sectioning diagrams, SEDs (Structure Erection Drawings), cross sections, and mast foundation details using AutoCAD.

Design cantilever arrangements, wiring schedules, and equipment layout for masts, portals, and anchoring points.

Ensure compliance of all designs with relevant RDSO/CORE/IR specifications and project standards.

Coordinate with field execution teams and project managers to gather site data and incorporate actual field conditions into the design.

Assist in the preparation of design BOQs, calculation sheets, span charts, and material schedules.

Address comments from clients, consultants, or reviewing authorities and make necessary revisions in the design.

Maintain version control and drawing records as per QA documentation standards.

Support project execution teams by resolving design-related queries and providing technical support during erection and commissioning phases.

Participate in design review meetings and client discussions as needed.

Ensure proper archiving of design files, drawings, and approvals for future reference and audits.

Qualifications

B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering (mandatory)

2–6 years of experience in OHE design for railway electrification projects

Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D drafting essential; 3D knowledge is an added advantage)

Knowledge of Indian Railway Electrification standards, RDSO, and CORE guidelines

Experience working on projects under RVNL, DFCCIL, IRCON, or similar clients preferred

Key Skills

Strong command over  AutoCAD  for preparing electrification layouts and details

In-depth knowledge of  OHE components , wiring schemes, and cantilever arrangements

Understanding of railway electrical clearance norms and structure positioning

Familiarity with  span calculations ,  mast locations , and  foundation design concepts

Good coordination and communication skills for inter-department collaboration

Attention to detail and version/document control discipline

Problem-solving mindset with ability to incorporate field feedback into design

Ability to work under tight timelines and manage multiple design packages simultaneously
