About the Role
Our Mechanical Engineers are responsible for the design of highly complex opto-mechanical and electro-mechanical components from concept straight through to production. Although our work is driven by specific objectives, goals, and defined boundaries, we execute our work under wide guidelines
Primary Responsibilities
Establish short-term operational plans with measurable contribution to function or business area results.Provide technical leadership and support to the extended L3 Harris Wescam Mechanical Engineering teamHold technical responsibility for the overall mechanical design integrity of all products designed at L3 Harris WescamParticipate in all technical design reviews to ensure mechanical design integrity is achievedContribute to the conceptual design, detailed design and engineering validation of mechanical sub-systems and components as a team leader in reference to product design activitiesFoster career development of professional staff, and provide performance feedback through bi-yearly performance reviews.Develop and maintain the Mechanical Engineering design processes and standardsManage the selection of Mechanical Engineering tools to foster innovation and maximize efficiency of the product development processEstimate the cost and schedule of assigned mechanical work packages and validate work packages estimated by other mechanical leads/designers. Monitor actuals against estimate, and develop strategies to continually improve on estimate accuracy.Monitor mechanical design engineering demand via the engineering manpower database and provide recommendations for new hires to meet expanding demandSource and develop external mechanical design resources that can be utilized on demand to meet fluctuating resource requirementsProvide mechanical technical support to other areas of the organization including Operations, Operations Engineering, Bids and Proposals, Sales and Marketing, and Export ComplianceKeep in synchronization with Mechanical and Electro-Mechanical industry trends and new technologies that may be relevant to L3 Harris Wescam’s present and future product developmentAs required, provide management and technical leadership for NPI projects, including meeting cost and schedule objectivesParticipate in department continuous improvement processesRequired Capabilities
