Anaergia offers a competitive compensation and benefits package in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. We are looking for an innovative, forward-thinking, multi-tasking person who enjoys challenges and actively seeks to develop and improve work processes and the environment.
About the Position: As a member of the Anaergia Integrated Solutions (AIS) team, the Mechanical Design Engineer II will take projects in the biogas and organic waste processing industry from concept through detailed design, analysis, procurement, manufacturing, and field commissioning. Working independently, this role involves marking up P&IDs, sizing piping and vessels, performing mechanical analysis on frames and pressure vessels, integrating process equipment into packaged skid systems, designing custom equipment, managing vendors, and supporting the assembly, testing, and start-up of AIS systems in the shop and in the field.
Job Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director, Integrated Systems, responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Interpret project requirements and process documentation, and review and mark up P&IDs to define the scope, equipment, and instrumentation for AIS systems.
Perform pipe sizing and selection, including hydraulic and line-sizing calculations and specification of piping, fittings, and valves.
Complete vessel and tank sizing and design, producing supporting calculations using COMPASS or equivalent pressure-vessel design software.
Perform mechanical analysis on structural frames, skids, and pressure vessels, including hand calculations and finite element analysis (FEA) to the applicable codes.
Create and detail 3D CAD models, pipe routing, manufacturing drawings, and detailed bills of material using Solid Works (including the Routing module) to enable manufacturing of company products such as organics polishing systems, biogas conditioning and upgrading systems, and ammonia removal systems.
Create sales drawings, GA drawings, shipping drawings, lifting drawings, site plans, and other design documents to support sales, applications, and project activities.
Select and specify process equipment such as pumps, blowers, compressors, heat exchangers, valves, filters, membranes, and separators, and perform sizing checks to ensure suitable equipment is specified for AIS systems.
Engage vendors to request product information, solicit and evaluate quotes, and audit vendor capability and quality.
Develop factory acceptance test (FAT) procedures and attend and witness FATs at vendor and manufacturing facilities.
Travel to local manufacturing shops to oversee fabrication progress and support skid and equipment assembly.
Travel within Canada and the United States to commission AIS systems in the field and support start-up.
Develop new products for the biogas and organic waste processing industry, and improve existing designs for cost, manufacturability, and performance.
Clearly communicate manufacturing and design details to internal purchasing, manufacturing, and project teams and to external suppliers.
Lead the mechanical design scope for assigned projects from concept through commissioning.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
Recommend engineering standards, design improvements, and best practices.
Support customer technical meetings and provide engineering recommendations.
Identify opportunities to improve design standards, manufacturing efficiency, and product reliability.
Develop standardized engineering tools, templates, and design practices.
Required Skills:
Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously.
Strong technical judgment and engineering decision-making skills.
A highly motivated self-starter who can independently solve problems and reliably complete tasks. Able to seize opportunities and move projects forward with minimal direction.
Proven ability to take a problem from concept through detailed design, analysis, procurement, manufacturing, and field commissioning.
Effective verbal and written communication skills to engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure continuous task progress.
Effective teamwork skills to enable collaboration with peers in a project environment.
Highly proficient with Solid Works or equivalent 3D CAD software, including sheet metal, structural, pipe routing (Solid Works Routing), and…
