Assistant Controller

Job Description

Our Canadian owned and operated services client is seeking an experienced and adaptable Assistant Controller to join its finance team in Hamilton. Responsibilities:

Lead and manage month-end and year-end close processes, including review engagements.

Oversee regular cash management and reporting activities.

Produce comprehensive monthly reports for management.

Provide mentorship and develop a team of approximately five direct reports, providing guidance on accounting principles, procedures, and best practices.

Optimize different and evolving accounting systems and manual processes.

Oversee maintenance and accuracy of the general ledger, ensuring all financial transactions are properly recorded and classified.

Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

Assist with preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts.

Review and approve vendor payments, ensuring proper coding, authorization, and timely disbursement.

Coordinate with external auditors, tax preparers, and other financial consultants.

Qualifications:

Minimum 10 years of highly technical accounting experience, ideally from a small-mid sized public company

Proven experience in an accounting manager role, encompassing cash management, and the full accounting cycle.

CPA designation is preferred, but strong, relevant experience will be considered in lieu.
