the parks & recreation department has positions open for the season that include concessions/sales workers, lifeguards, counselors, and laborers.
essential functions
laborers
: under general supervision, engage in a wide range of conservation and other outdoor recreation maintenance and construction activities. Responsibilities include the care and maintenance of park and recreation facilities and grounds, mowing and trimming, litter and trash removal, and cleaning shelters and restrooms.
concessions pool & recplex
: prepares food and beverage items for resale and serves the public while ensuring the dining area is clean and well organized.
salespersons golf
: sells greens fees, works concessions, rents and cleans carts, and performs other related duties at flint hills clubhouse.
camp counselor
: responsible for the supervision of children participating in the summer camp program and planning and implementing summer activities.
lifeguards pool
: must have lifeguard certifications and a first aid certificate.
seasonal employees are hired for 3-to-9-month positions and are normally assigned to one parks & recreation department division. Period of employment: march 15th - november 15th (time period may vary). Monday–friday, 40 hours per week (possible weekends and evenings). In addition to the above duties, seasonal employees are required to perform other duties as assigned and represent the city in a professional manner.
qualificationsminimum qualifications: laborer positions require applicants to be at least 18 years old, legally licensed and insured to operate a motor vehicle, and knowledgeable in the safe use of string trimmers, mowers, and tools. Ability and willingness to perform labor-intensive activities and lift 50 lbs. A high degree of self-motivation, a strong work ethic, good organizational skills, and the ability to interact positively with the public are essential.
Minimum education:
eighth grade or equivalent. Grounds maintenance experience preferred. Laborers must pass a pre-employment fit for duty test. Salespersons and concessionaires must operate a cash register, and knowledge of golf is helpful for golf course salespersons. Camp counselors must be trained in red cross cpr & first aid. Lifeguards must have a current lifeguard certificate. Employees must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background investigation and maintain good working relationships with city officials and the public.
A valid driver’s license is required to drive city vehicles.
