Electrical and Firmware Systems Architect

3 days ago Be among the first 25 applicants

SiPhox Health is creating an entirely new category of at-home technology that brings advanced biological measurement into everyday life. Our platform brings together silicon photonics, microfluidics, motion systems, sensing, thermal control, and embedded computing inside a compact device that performs complex biochemical analysis in minutes.

We are building a consumer product that has never existed before. It integrates optics, chemistry, mechanics, and electronics into a seamless experience designed for millions of homes.

To achieve this, we are looking for an architect who can unify the entire system into a reliable, elegant, and scalable platform.

The Opportunity

We are hiring an Electrical and Firmware Systems Architect who will define how the whole system works, from electronics and power to firmware behavior and subsystem coordination. You will design how motors, pumps, sensors, heaters, optics, photonic readers, microcontrollers, and real‑time firmware integrate into one cohesive machine.

This is a role for someone who loves building complex systems from the ground up. You do not need prior medical device experience. A small core engineering group will include at least one team member dedicated to regulatory work, freeing you to focus on architecture, performance, and long-term platform development.

If you enjoy inventing new categories instead of refining existing ones, you will thrive here.

What You Will Do System Architecture Across Hardware and Firmware
  • Define the architecture that connects motion control, BLDC and stepper drivers, pumps, valves, heaters, optical modules, sensors, and photonic readout
  • Design the topology of multiple microcontrollers and the communication buses between them (SPI, UART, RS485, CAN, USB, GPIO triggers)
  • Create subsystem boundaries, interface specifications, timing diagrams, and state‑machine behavior
  • Ensure system design meets performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost goals
Cross‑Functional Technical Leadership
  • Collaborate closely with electrical, firmware, mechanical, photonics, fluidics, chemistry, and manufacturing teams
  • Lead architecture reviews and guide critical subsystem decisions
  • Anticipate edge cases and design the system to behave predictably under all conditions
  • Maintain a unified vision for how all subsystems interact
Subsystem Definition and Integration
  • Define sensing and feedback loops for motion, temperature, optics, and fluidics
  • Specify the timing and sequencing of optical reads, mechanical movements, thermal transitions, and fluidic actions
  • Guide PCB design to ensure alignment with firmware behavior
  • Evaluate tradeoffs in component selection, power systems, performance, and durability
  • Define high‑level firmware structure, including state machines, scheduling, inter‑module communication, safety logic, and calibration modes
  • Ensure electronics and firmware are developed according to a single cohesive architecture
  • Support firmware design reviews without requiring day‑to‑day firmware coding
Reliability and System Safety
  • Define system‑level protections, detection mechanisms, and fallback modes
  • Contribute to system risk analysis while another team member leads regulatory documentation
  • Build in robustness and predictable behavior for real‑world environments
Prototype to Production
  • Guide the evolution of the system through early prototypes, verification builds, and mass production
  • Define requirements for testing, calibration, and manufacturing diagnostics
  • Work with suppliers and manufacturing partners to protect architectural integrity during scale‑up
What We Are Looking For Required
  • Experience architecting complex electromechanical or embedded systems such as consumer electronics, robotics, automation equipment, or scientific instruments
  • Strong foundation in both electronics design and embedded firmware fundamentals
  • Ability to define subsystem interfaces, timing behavior, and state‑machine logic
  • Experience with mixed‑signal circuits, sensors, motor control, power systems, and multi‑MCU architectures
  • Excellent debugging skills across hardware, firmware, and mechanical systems
  • Degree in…
