Rate: $56.97/hr - $71.20/hr on W2 (Inclusive all)

Overview

• The Senior Optical Engineer will make key contributions to the design and development of ophthalmic medical devices, as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Activities include optical design and component selection in the development of both light delivery and imaging systems.
• The successful candidate will work closely with the hardware, software, and applied research teams to develop new technologies and methods to improve and advance ophthalmic diagnostic and therapeutic technologies.

Responsibilities

• Key contributor to all aspects of optical and optomechanical design of our corneal crosslinking devices, from initial concept and prototyping to manufacturing hand-off and sustaining engineering activities.
• Collaborate with applied research, electrical, mechanical and software engineering teams, project management, operations, and quality assurance to accomplish department goals and objectives.
• Proficiency with optical design and analysis tools (e.g., Zemax) and mechanical CAD software (e.g., Solid Works).
• Ensure that the development process is aligned with design control procedures. Definition and execution of verification and validation test protocols.
• Develop and implement testing procedures to ensure performance and reliability.
• Design of production tooling, test fixtures, and related procedures.
• Familiarity with medical device design controls, verification & validation processes, and regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA QSR, ISO 13485).
• Demonstrated experience designing machine vision/imaging systems and light delivery or illumination systems.
• Strong working knowledge of optical characterization techniques and test methodologies (e.g., imaging performance, MTF, beam profiling, radiometry/photometry, interferometry).
• Experience with optomechanical design of optical sub-systems, tooling, and precision alignment fixtures.
• Provide technical direction to other members of the product development team.
• Self-starter with the ability to recognize and solve complex issues with minimal guidance.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in medical device product development environment from initial concept to commercial release.
• Development and design of machine vision/imaging systems and light delivery systems.
• Strong knowledge of optical characterization techniques and testing methodologies. Optomechanical design of sub-systems, tooling, and fixtures.
• Familiarity with medical device design control procedures and regulatory requirements. Proficient with Zemax and Solid Works.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work at optical benches and in laboratory environments for extended periods. Ability to lift 40lbs when required
• Occasional work in manufacturing or cleanroom environments as required.
