Software Developer - Optimization Algorithms

COMSOL, Inc. is seeking software developers to join its Numerical Analysis group in the Burlington, MA office.

You will work on the Optimization Module, an add-on product to COMSOL Multiphysics that includes a suite of gradient-based and gradient-free optimization solvers. A core technology of COMSOL Multiphysics is the symbolic differentiation of partial differential equations, which provides significant flexibility in defining and solving optimization problems. In particular, this technology enables users to define custom objective functions and efficiently compute the derivatives required by gradient-based optimization methods.

As part of the Numerical Analysis group, you will contribute to the analysis and specification of new numerical methods and functionality, their implementation in C++ and Java, testing, and documentation.

Requirements

PhD in gradient-based optimization or a closely related field.

Excellent programming skills.

Deep understanding of numerical methods for differential equations.

Preferred Skills and Experience Development of large-scale software projects.

Software profiling and performance optimization.

User interface design.

Design and implementation of interfaces to numerical libraries.
