All About General Merchandise:
Experts of store process and efficiency who enable a consistent guest experience by ensuring product is set, in-stock, accurately priced, and signed on the sales floor. The General Merchandise and Food Sales team leads inbound, outbound, replenishment, and promotional signing processes for all GM areas. This team conducts inventory accuracy, merchandise setup and maintenance, and pricing processes for all areas of the store.

Experts enable efficient delivery to guests by supporting pick, pack, and ship fulfillment work.

Target values meaningful experiences that help team members build and develop skills for a career. The General Merchandise Expert role can provide the following:

• Knowledge of guest service fundamentals and experience supporting a guest-first culture across the store
• Experience in retail business fundamentals including department sales trends, inventory replenishment, and process efficiency and improvement
• Experience executing daily/weekly workload to support business priorities and deliver on sales goals

Responsibilities

• Create a welcoming experience by greeting guests as you complete daily tasks and assist guests to solve their needs.
• Thank guests and acknowledge their choice to shop at Target.
• Execute daily tasks assigned by leadership to achieve goals aligned with business priorities, including receiving products, restocking shelves, organizing the backroom, arranging merchandise, and setting up promotional signs for GM areas.
• Operate power equipment to move merchandise or store fixtures if certified.
• Execute processes such as pricing changes, merchandise setup and maintenance, and inventory accuracy as directed.
• Learn how operating procedures affect inventory management, store profitability, and product availability.
• Be knowledgeable about store resources, products, and services to solve guest issues and improve their experience.
• Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety, and compliance. Work safely and report hazards.
• Support guest services such as back-up cashier and digital fulfillment processes (picking, packing orders, or delivering pickup orders) while complying with applicable laws.
• All other duties based on business needs.

Additional Basic Expectations

• Accurately handle cash register operations as needed
• Climb ladders when required
• Safely scan, handle, and move merchandise, including lifting up to 44 pounds without assistance
• Flexible work schedule (nights, weekends, holidays) and reliable attendance
• Capable of working in varying temperatures and environments (e.g., Drive-Up, carryout)
• Remain mobile for the duration of a shift
