Sr. Mobile Diesel Technician

The Sr. Mobile Diesel Technician is responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and advanced repairs, advanced mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. Heavily relied upon for advanced diagnostics and triage of complicated repairs, this role is considered the lead on jobsites by customers and technicians. The technician functions as a consultant on the customer's behalf and must comply with all company policies while achieving high level performance metrics.

DUTIES
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment including electrical/brake/cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment—including electrical/brake/cooling, air conditioning, fan clutches, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Road‑test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
  • Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and generate and evaluate alternatives using sound judgment.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on a company‑issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre‑post‑trip inspections.
  • Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess their needs and provide information or assistance.
  • Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, and lift jacks.
  • Document according to company standards, uploading pictures of work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) using a company‑issued iOS device and the proprietary TRAIT application.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and all other required documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Work independently and manage one's daily schedule.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to most Standard Repair Times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
  • Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates and retrieve purchase order numbers.
  • Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health and environmental policies and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
  • Maintain the company‑issued service truck, conduct safety checks, and perform daily pre‑post trip inspections.
REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma/GED and 5 years’ experience in a related field; alternative combinations such as a higher degree/certification plus 3 years or 7 years’ experience may also qualify.
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for job duties.
  • Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
  • Obtain 608/609 certification within 18 months.
  • Pass a DOT-regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical as required by the DOT FMCSA.
  • Submit a current and valid DOT medical card with more than 4 months remaining; otherwise, a DOT physical is required.
  • Be at least 21 years old due to interstate operating authority regulations.
  • Hold a valid driver's license and be able to maintain a Driver Qualification File.
