Job Overview
Mobile Diesel Mechanic II – Tue - Sat 1 pm – 11 pm. Base pay $1500 with New Hire Bonus.
Location:
Fleet Services by Cox Automotive, Indianapolis. Work is on-field mobile service.
Fleet Services by Cox Automotive is a national leader in mobile maintenance for light, medium, and heavy‑duty trucks and trailers. The role supports scheduled preventative maintenance, DOT inspections, and light mechanical repairs while working independently in a mobile environment.
Responsibilities- Perform scheduled PM, DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in mobile field locations.
- Make minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment (electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering, transmissions, clutches, differentials).
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment using test instruments, handheld computers, and pressure gauges.
- Road‑test vehicles to verify proper function and safety.
- Manage parts inventory and reconcile parts usage on company‑issued service truck.
- Operate and maintain the company service vehicle, performing safety checks and pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
- Communicate effectively with clients to assess needs and resolve issues.
- Prioritize concurrent tasks and manage own daily schedule.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, and lift/jacks.
- Document work in Repair Orders, upload photos, and complete DOT forms pursuant to company standards.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and company safety policies.
- High School Diploma or GED with 3 years of related experience (alternatively higher education plus 5 years of experience).
- Possess a set of hand tools required for duties.
- Achieve ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
- Pass DOT‑regulated background screening and physical (or submit valid DOT medical card with >4 months remaining).
- Minimum age 21, valid driver’s license, and ability to maintain Driver Qualification File.
- Safe driver with clean driving record.

- Strong logical reasoning and judgment in troubleshooting.
- Physical stamina for climbing, lifting, and long periods of standing or walking.
- Clear two‑way communication with clients and team members.
- Ability to determine appropriate tools and equipment for tasks.
- Spatial awareness for judging distances.
