Whatyou will do
Performs duties related to the investigation of minor motor vehicle collisions, writing crash reports, controlling traffic flow, directing traffic, and providing crowd control; and perform various administrative support duties.
This position requires the ability to be called in during off-schedule hours and have transportation during adverse weather conditions.

- Investigate traffic accidents that involve property damage.
- Provide assistance at the scene by calling for wreckers, ambulances, fire personnel, or law enforcement as neededli>
- Help disabled motorists and arrange for the removal of abandoned vehicles that may be obstructing roadways
- Direct traffic at accident scenes, road closures, or when traffic signals are down.
- Set up traffic cones, barricades, or flares—sometimes over distances of up to 100 feet—to ensure safety at hazardous locations or crowd scenes.
- Report crimes in progress to the communications center while remaining uninvolved for safety.
- Use in-car computer systems to enter or retrieve information on wanted individuals, vehicle registrations, or driver’s license status.
- Maintain your assigned vehicle and all related equipment to ensure it’s always in proper working order and ready for use.
- May be called upon to testify in court as a witness based on observed incidents or investigative actions. Pitching In Where Needed
- Assist with various administrative support tasks to help keep daily operations running smoothly.
- Policy & Legal Knowledge: Familiarity with police department policies, the City Code, and applicable NC General Statutes. Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, and regulations effectively.
- Investigative Understanding: Knowledge of traffic crash investigations, scene management, property handling, and investigative/interviewing techniques.

Skills:
Proficient in standard office procedures, computers, and relevant software applications, including Microsoft Office products. - Communication
Skills:
Strong written and oral communication, including proper English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. - Public Interaction: Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships both within and outside the organization. Ability to apply public relations techniques with professionalism and courtesy.
