What You Will DoPerforms responsible skilled automotive equipment maintenance work repairing automobiles, trucks, and related heavy and off‑road equipment.
Expected Hiring RangeExpected hiring range: $43,201.60 - $47,521.76. Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications. A starting salary above the range listed may be considered for highly qualified individuals not to exceed the maximum of the grade.
Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance- Inspect, service, and repair heavy trucks, trailers, and various other equipment, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
- Perform thorough diagnostic assessments on complex vehicle systems, including electronically controlled diesel engines, electrical and mobile electronic systems, air and braking systems, and hydraulic systems.
- Inspect vehicle components, including body, chassis, and auxiliary systems, conducting preventative maintenance and repairing any failed parts.
- Diagnose and repair issues related to the mechanical and electronic systems of city vehicles.
- Assess equipment lifespan, recommend replacement, or advise on appropriate life‑cycle usage to maximize fleet efficiency.
- Utilize fleet maintenance software to maintain accurate records of repairs and services completed.
- Perform essential tire services, including flat tire repairs and tire replacements, ensuring that vehicles are in safe operating condition.
- Interpret manuals, electrical diagrams, and diagnostic software to accurately diagnose and repair equipment issues.
- Communicate effectively with all levels of fleet operations to ensure repair needs are met and completed to customer satisfaction.
- Inspect city vehicles for compliance with state and city safety standards.
- Ensure all repair work adheres to OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies to maintain a safe work environment.
- Knowledge of Equipment Repair Methods: Thorough understanding of the methods, tools, and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of trucks, construction vehicles, refuse equipment, and other maintenance machinery.
- Tool and Machinery Operation: Skilled in using and operating a variety of tools and machinery used in equipment repair, including shop tools such as drills, presses, grinders, micrometers, welders, and cutting torch operations.
- Diagnostic and Testing Equipment: Proficient in operating complex diagnostic and testing equipment to identify mechanical issues, detecting worn or broken parts through detailed inspection.
- Computer and Record Keeping: Capable of using computer systems to record repair notes, manage work orders, track service operations, and generate detailed reports on repair activities.
- Blueprint and Diagram Interpretation: Ability to interpret and work with diagrams, installation charts, and repair blueprints to guide and ensure proper repairs.
- Instructional Adherence: Ability to follow both oral and written instructions accurately, ensuring repairs are completed in line with provided guidelines.
