Position description
The Center for Community News at the University of Vermont (UVM) is seeking applications for a non-tenure-track instructor of journalism, to begin in the Spring 2026. This position is part of a collaboration between CCN and the Department of Sociology in the Colleges of Arts & Sciences, where it will be housed. Successful candidates will help build CCN’s Democracy and Journalism program through applied journalism instruction and a deep understanding of the role of ethical, trustworthy news in a thriving democracy.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualifying candidates will:
- hold an M.A. in journalism;
- have 5+ years of experience as a working journalist
- have experience teaching undergraduate or graduate level courses in journalism, media theory, communications or a related field;
- have multimedia newsroom experience including print, radio, television and digital news production;
- have strong relationships with news outlets

Additional preferred qualifications include:
- experience managing newsrooms and/or news organizations;
- experience conducting research for academic or general audiences about the news landscape;
- experience working with national news organizations.
