Position Title: Elementary Lunchroom/Recess Supervisor
Location: Assigned School
Reports To: Principal
Job Group: Non-Certified, Non-Union Support Staff
Summary: Provides assistance to students during lunch and recess breaks, supervises activities and behaviors to ensure a positive, safe environment for students to eat and enjoy recess time.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Supervises students during lunch and recess, circulates among students to preserve order and safeguard school property.
- Monitors student behavior and takes appropriate action to quell disruption or inappropriate behavior in accordance with school policies.
- Encourages peaceful resolution of conflicts and promotes a harmonious atmosphere.
- Assumes responsibility for play equipment and organizes group games and activities.
- Directs movement of groups to and from playground, lunchroom, and classrooms safely and organizedly.
- Assists students in lunchroom cleanup.
- Recommends measures for improving cafeteria services to the Nutritional Services Director and/or Principal.
- Communicates with school personnel to ensure student safety during lunch and recess through collaborative supervision.
- High school graduate or equivalent. First Aid and CPR training helpful.
- Ability to read, comprehend simple instructions, write simple correspondence, and present information effectively to staff and students.
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, division).
- Common sense reasoning for detailed written or oral instructions.
- Knowledge of child development, appropriate behavior change techniques, and direct experience working with children.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, and community.
- Physical ability to frequently walk, talk, hear, and stand; occasional sitting. Good depth perception and the ability to read written or typed information.
