General Purpose
Counselor works in cooperation with the director, assistant directors, and camp counselors to carry out specific program activities. Bring the fun and excitement to kids in need of a playful escape during school break! Create an unforgettable atmosphere where laughter and safety are the top priority.
Essential Job Functions- Available for February School Break (2/23-2/27) and April School Break (4/20-4/24)
- Follow all departmental rules and regulations to ensure a fun, safe, and smooth camp experience.
- Assist in planning and delivery of exciting activities and enriching program.
- Check area for safety hazards and report deficiencies to supervisor.
- Attend staff meetings and staff trainings as required.
- Report all accidents and incidents occurring within jurisdiction to supervisor.
- Administer proper First Aid as required.
- Required to be on site 15 minutes before the program starts for setup and help with cleanup after the program ends.
- Participation in a feedback-driven evaluation process.
- Ability to actively support City diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts within stated job responsibilities and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as evidenced by ongoing trainings and professional development.
- Previous experience working with children in a group or individualized situation required.
- College coursework in education, child development, family studies, or recreation preferred.
- Ability to supervise and organize groups of children for activity programs.
- Ability to deal effectively with disagreements, co‑workers and supervisors.
- Knowledge of safety principles and practices as they apply to group activities.
- Knowledge of a variety of recreation/leisure activities and group games.
- A cooperative attitude and team player.
- Enthusiasm, patience, a desire to work with children and creativity.
