Lecturer / Senior Lecturer – Biomedical Engineering

The Department of Electrical and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Vermont (UVM) seeks applicants for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer position in Biomedical Engineering. The expected start date is August 24, 2026 (Fall Semester). Candidates should be highly motivated, able to lead the instructional components of a biomedical innovation and design curriculum that spans all four undergraduate years, and develop and instruct courses in their technical areas of expertise.

This hire will serve as an instructional leader in UVM’s Center for Biomedical Innovation (CBI) and interface with the newly opened Bio Labs Innovation Center. The role supports academic research commercialization, addresses challenges in rural medicine, environmental sustainability in healthcare, and trains future Med Tech inventors and business leaders.

The Biomedical Engineering Program at UVM values interdisciplinary research and innovative approaches to engineering education. It offers a new undergraduate curriculum focused on design thinking and active learning, with strong enrollment and a culture of design and research. The program seeks to deepen expertise in rural healthcare, biomechanics, bioimaging, biomaterials, regenerative medicine, protein engineering, computational modeling, and drug delivery.

Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in biomedical engineering, including engineering design and technical electives.
  • Develop and update curriculum, incorporating design thinking, active learning, and industry relevance.
  • Advise and mentor students, fostering academic and professional growth.
  • Serve as an instructional leader within CBI, collaborating with Bio Labs Innovation Center and regional industry partners.
  • Engage in experiential learning projects that provide students with real‑world innovation experience.
  • Contribute to faculty service and scholarship activities that support UVM’s values.
Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and curriculum development; experience with under‑graduate and graduate level courses.
  • Industry, research, or development experience in biomedical innovation preferred.
  • Evidence of commitment to inclusive education and advance of Our Common Ground values.
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines and with external partners.
