Social Worker - Outpatient Psychiatry
UVM Health – UVM Medical Center is seeking a qualified Social Worker to provide direct clinical mental health evaluation and psychotherapy to individuals at elevated risk for suicide through the Suicide Care Clinic.
Responsibilities- Conduct direct clinical mental health evaluations and provide individual and group psychotherapy.
- Provide direct diagnosis and empirically supported treatment to patients.
- Perform case management duties including consultation with primary care and other referring providers, assessment for program admission, clinical evaluation and diagnosis using DSM‑V and ICD‑10 codes.
- Coordinate services with crisis and inpatient psychiatric providers, including prior to inpatient admission and after acute after‑care following discharge.
- Participate in daily/weekly case presentation at internal rounds.
- Maintain contact with collateral members of the patient support network.
- Establish clinically appropriate post‑treatment after‑care plans and coordinate with community providers, agencies, and resources.
- Contribute to the education and training of mental health clinicians, including clinical supervision of students and trainees.
- Deliver timely and accurate documentation of all clinical interventions and treatment plans.
- Formulate and update patients’ plans of care and coordinate ongoing treatment while they are in the program.
- Coordinate high‑acuity patient care with multiple providers within and outside our health network.
- Master’s degree in Social Work (minimum).
- Current State of Vermont Social Work License (LICSW).
- Training or certification may be required in case management, group therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, brief CBT for suicide prevention, cognitive processing therapy for PTSD, prolonged exposure therapy for PTSD, or substance use treatment.
- At least 3 years of direct clinical experience post‑licensure in an acute or sub‑acute mental health setting.
- At least 3 years of direct experience post‑licensure providing individual, family, and group psychotherapy.
- Training in acute crisis intervention.
- Training in suicide risk assessment and symptom reduction.
- Training in manualized psychotherapies.
- Experience with co‑occurring disorders, including substance use disorder and medical complications.
- Familiarity with psychotropic medications and their role in treatment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Training and experience in CBT/DBT approaches to acute mental health symptom reduction or alleviation.
- Experience with addictive disorders and population.
- Experience working with a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience providing clinical supervision to students and trainees.
- Additional clinical certifications and skills in specific clinical specialties are welcomed.
