The Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Trainee performs duties that do not require the professional training and judgment of a pharmacist. The trainee will learn and demonstrate mastery of compounding and filling medication orders, deliveries to patient care and ancillary areas, managing technology including Carousel and Pyxis. The trainee learns and demonstrates the ability to maintain effective workflow within the department when staffing as expeditor.

The trainee may advance into and train in other specialty areas such as sterile compounding, hazardous compounding, O.R., Controlled Substances, or In-Basket.

High School Diploma or GED plus one year of post high school education or relevant work experience required. Certification with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) through self‑study is needed for promotion within the Technician Career ladder. Trainee will register with the State of Vermont Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician before the start of employment.

Inpatient pharmacy technician experience or minimum of one year retail pharmacy technician work experience preferred. Other relevant education or work experience may be considered.
