Pharmacy Technician
The Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Trainee performs duties that do not require the professional training and judgment of a pharmacist. The role includes mastering compounding and filling medication orders, delivering medications to patient care and ancillary areas, and managing technology such as Carousel and Pyxis. The trainee learns to maintain effective workflow within the department when staffing as expeditor. Upon completion of all central pharmacy competencies and the Pyxis competency, the trainee may advance and train in other specialty areas such as sterile compounding, hazardous compounding, O.R., controlled substances, or in‑basket.
EducationHigh School Diploma or GED plus one year of post‑high‑school education or relevant work experience is required. Certification with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) through self‑study is needed for promotion within the Technician Career ladder.
Before the start of employment, the trainee must register with the State of Vermont Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician.
ExperienceInpatient pharmacy technician experience or a minimum of one year retail pharmacy technician work experience is preferred. Other relevant education or work experience may be considered.
