We are seeking an experienced Senior Network and Computer Systems Administrator to lead the administration, security, and optimization of the USCIS enterprise IT infrastructure. This role is critical in ensuring the availability, performance, scalability, and security of mission‑critical network and systems services used to support USCIS operations nationwide.

As a senior‑level administrator, you will provide technical leadership and oversight of the network and server environments, support modernization initiatives, guide junior administrators, and ensure compliance with federal cybersecurity and IT governance frameworks.

Position is contingent upon contract award.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the administration of enterprise network and system environments supporting USCIS mission systems and users.
  • Oversee installation, configuration, and maintenance of physical and virtualized server environments (Windows/Linux), routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Design and implement secure network architectures, including LAN/WAN, VPNs, VLANs, and cloud‑based network integrations (AWS, Azure).
  • Manage and maintain enterprise services such as Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, GPOs, file and print services, and identity management systems.
  • Ensure adherence to DHS/USCIS cybersecurity policies and frameworks, including NIST SP 800‑53, FISMA, and Zero Trust principles.
  • Review and apply STIGs, IAVAs, and perform patch management and vulnerability remediation.
  • Utilize enterprise monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Splunk, Solar Winds, Nagios) to proactively detect and resolve system or network issues.
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation including SOPs, network diagrams, system baselines, and change logs.
  • Support contingency planning, backup and recovery strategies, and business continuity efforts.
  • Collaborate closely with cybersecurity, Dev Ops, and application development teams to integrate systems securely.
  • Provide Tier III support for complex technical issues and mentor junior administrators and technicians.
  • Participate in or lead technical working groups, briefings, and technical deep dives for USCIS leadership and stakeholders.
  • Support audits, security assessments, and ATO (Authority to Operate) efforts under the RMF process.
Qualifications
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • 7+ years of experience in enterprise network and systems administration, with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Expertise in Windows Server administration, Linux systems (Red Hat/CentOS), and Active Directory infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in managing enterprise networks (Cisco, Juniper), firewalls (Palo Alto, Fortinet), and load balancers.
  • Experience with virtualization and cloud platforms such as VMware, AWS, and Azure (including hybrid/cloud migration).
  • Strong understanding of federal cybersecurity frameworks (NIST RMF, FISMA, FedRAMP) and security controls implementation.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Experience managing ITIL‑based service operations and change control.
Desired Qualification
  • Previous experience supporting DHS, USCIS, or other federal civilian agencies.
  • Professional certifications such as:
    • CompTIA Security+, CASP+.
    • Cisco CCNP/CCNA.
    • Microsoft Certified:
      Azure Administrator/Architect.
    • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA).
    • VMware Certified Professional (VCP).
    • AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Sys Ops Administrator.
  • Experience with automation and scripting tools (e.g., Power Shell, Ansible, Bash, Python).
  • Familiarity with configuration management and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
