Business Manager Posting Summary
As a member of the Division of Student Affairs (DOSA) business management team, the Business Manager serves as the business operations lead for Student Involvement and Davis Center Operations & Events, units that deliver a broad range of student programming, advising, event execution, and community engagement within the Department of Student Life. The Business Manager oversees financial resources, human resources, and general business operations for Student Involvement and the Davis Center, ensuring alignment with departmental strategy, divisional priorities, and institutional goals.
This position supervises one staff member (Business Operations Coordinator) and collaborates with leadership on resource planning and policy implementation. The Business Manager represents Student Life and DOSA on divisional and institutional committees and promotes an inclusive environment.
- Collaborate with DOSA's Business Operations Team and Student Life leadership on long- and short-term planning, including financial and staffing analyses, proposals, and business process development.
- Contribute to initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and support divisional priorities.
- Manage complex budgets, contracts, and bidding processes in coordination with departmental staff and central administrative offices.
- Oversee facility renewal and equipment reserve funds.
- Serve as primary liaison with central HR and provide direct support to Student Involvement and Davis Center staff on HR matters including recruitment, retention, performance management, staffing transitions, and policy compliance.
- Ensure processes, training, and controls are in place to support efficient and compliant business operations.
- Participate in facilities and equipment management, including occasional project administration.
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related area and two to four years related experience required.
- Budget management, coordination and analysis; and human resource and employee relations experience required.
- Demonstrated ability to actively engage in developing and implementing business processes that promote and support equity and inclusion required.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with productivity software, with intermediate to advanced knowledge of spreadsheet applications required.
- Effective organizational skills and ability to think critically, plan effectively, and problem solve.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, enterprise HR and financial software such as People Soft and People Admin.
- Experience working in a higher education setting.
