Laboratory Research Technician Posting Summary
The Morelli Lab seeks a highly motivated research technician to support research studies on how RNA-regulated processes shape human neural cell function and resilience. This position is expected to work extensively with human iPSC-derived CNS models and complementary in vitro systems while providing experimental support across the molecular, cellular, and imaging platforms. Primary responsibilities include maintaining cell cultures, performing molecular and biochemical assays, preparing samples for sequencing and imaging workflows, organizing and analyzing data, and assisting with troubleshooting and protocol optimization.
The successful candidate will also provide oversight and support to undergraduate researchers in the lab and ensure efficient day-to-day laboratory operations, thereby contributing to a collaborative and discovery-driven research environment at UVM.
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific field such as biology, neuroscience, or psychology.
- 1-2 years related experience in molecular biology, cell culture, basic data analysis and general laboratory management.
- Effective analytical ability and organizational skills for accurate laboratory bench work, record keeping, and data interpretation records.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Effective verbal and writing skills.
- Experience with ELISA, Western blotting, PCR and qPCR, RNA or protein preparation, immunostaining, and fluorescence imaging.
- Experience with mammalian cell culture, especially human iPSC maintenance or differentiation, is very desirable.
- Experience with software such as Excel, Prism, Image
J or Fiji, or similar tools for quantitative analysis. - Some experience with bioinformatics, sequencing data, or coding (R or Python).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in maintaining records and documentation.
- Prior experience helping to train or guide undergraduate students.
$21.58/hr - $25.00/hr
Special Conditions- Probationary period may be required.
- Contingent on continued funding.
- Occasional evening and/or weekends required (if non‑exempt position, may result in overtime).
- This position is ineligible for telework due to the essential functions.
