Research Technician Posting Summary
Work closely with the PI to collect, process, and manage the large acoustic collection from the PI's lab. Participate in fieldwork within and outside the US deploying acoustic sensors, assisting in drone deployments and collecting behavioral data from the research boat. The technician will also contribute to data analysis, address computational challenges, and when needed participate in the training and mentorship of graduate and undergraduate students in a research context.
The ideal candidate will have experience in marine mammal field research, deployment of acoustic sensors, and computational proficiency in machine learning and at least two of the following packages R, MATLAB, PAMGuard, RAVEN or MANTA, along with excellent organizational skills.
Bachelor's degree in Biology or related field with two years of classroom or research experience with basic biology laboratory methods required. Training in bioacoustics analysis and marine mammals field work required. Knowledge of data processing, signal characterization, signal categorization, signal transformation and computational skills in statistics required. Effective analytical, problem solving, organization skills, and attention to detail with accuracy required.
Desirable QualificationsPrior experience in mentoring students.
Anticipated Pay Range$21.58/hour - $25/hour
