About Us and the Position:

We're a woman-owned specialty coffee business seeking a passionate, detail-oriented coffee professional to join our small but mighty team in Burlington, VT. This position is an integral part of our retail and front of the house team critical in our operations. You will be responsible for creating a memorable experience every time a customer walks through our door. By crafting delicious coffee beverages, speaking knowledgeably about our coffee offerings and brew equipment, you will be an extension of our brand.

You will learn about the specialty coffee industry and grow with our team of dedicated and passionate coffee professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

At the bar:

  • Prepare the highest quality coffee beverages, following specialty coffee and Brio standards
  • Create a welcoming environment and provide thoughtful customer service and impactful experiences for guests
  • Share knowledge of coffee and coffee products with customers; describing profiles of coffee and espresso offerings
  • Develop knowledge about specialty coffee standards and participate in ongoing trainings and professional development opportunities
  • Serve pastries to guests
  • Work closely with team to implement and maintain efficient workflow
  • Monitor and update coffee brewing recipes
  • Keep the bar well stocked and communicate inventory needs
  • Implement coffee brewing equipment and coffee bar cleaning protocols
  • Operate and calibrate coffee and espresso and brewing equipment to achieve consistently high‑quality results
  • Work with team on monitoring coffee inventory

On the retail floor:

  • Create and maintain attractive displays of retail coffee and equipment offerings
  • Maintain a clean and organized retail and customer space at the roastery, our bar, and back of the house
  • Continually develop in‑depth knowledge of retail offerings and assist customers in selecting coffee products that best suits their needs

At the roastery & out‑n‑about:

  • Participate in collaborations, events, and community‑building efforts within the Burlington community
  • Assist with and contribute to special events at the roastery and external coffee events
  • Contribute to marketing & communication efforts
  • Participate in creating an inclusive environment where all feel welcome and engage with the community we serve with kindness, professionalism, and grace

The Ideal Skills and Experience for this Position:

Requirements:

  • 1‑2 years specialty coffee experience
  • Interest in and passion for coffee and specialty beverages
  • Familiarity with specialty coffee industry standards, espresso fundamentals (extraction, dosage) and how variables impact flavor
  • Familiarity with basic coffee and espresso equipment – experience with basic troubleshooting, understanding how to calibrate and maintain equipment
  • Customer service/hospitality experience
  • Eye for identifying efficient workflows
  • A team player who supports colleagues and the team and creates a great atmosphere to work in
  • Ability to work alone
  • Ability to think quickly and be a problem solver
  • Keen sense of customer service and hospitality; ability to create memorable moments for customers
  • Exceptional communication and listening skills with colleagues, managers and customers
  • Interest in continuous learning
  • Ability to be flexible and approach work with a positive attitude
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow through
  • Be punctual and reliable
  • Be a self‑starter with ability to identify and execute tasks and projects on your own or during slow periods
  • Willingness to help colleagues and support other departments if needed during slow periods
  • Ability to be on your feet for extended periods of time

Position Type and Compensation:

  • Please note this is NOT a seasonal position.
  • Type:Part‑time (2‑3 days/week) or Full‑time (4‑5 days/week)
  • Schedule:Day shifts Monday - Sunday; weekend availability
  • Pay:$20‑23.65/ hour (we are tip free - check out more about it on previous page)
  • Up to 25 paid days off per year!
  • Participation in company‑sponsored 401(K) plan with Brio matching up to 3% of wages, after 90 days and when meeting minimum hours requirements
