Position: Housing Advocate - Champlain Place - On Call

The Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity (CVOEO) has exciting opportunities for you to make a meaningful impact in our community by joining our team to provide housing advocacy services at the Champlain Place Emergency Shelter in Burlington, Vermont. CVOEO’s Champlain Place is a 24/7 low-barrier shelter for up to 40 individuals experiencing homelessness.

CVOEO is looking for On-call Housing Advocates who need flexibility and extra income to cover regular staff absences and unfilled positions.

Our Housing Advocates will provide client-centered, trauma-informed support for emergency housing guests and others experiencing homelessness with the ultimate goal of empowering individuals to access safe, sustainable housing. Our Housing Advocates work with clients to secure housing and access essential benefits, and refer people to employment, medical, mental health, and substance use disorder services. They will work with an array of community partners to help clients access options for housing and social services.

Addressing barriers to housing and collaborating with partner agencies to address those barriers is a crucial aspect of this role.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in social or human services or a combination of education and experience from which comparable skills and knowledge are acquired. In-depth knowledge of the causes and effects of homelessness, affordable housing, poverty, economic justice, and multiple oppress ions affecting economically vulnerable groups, along with direct experience in advocacy and service provision to individuals affected by housing and economic insecurities. Must have a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, access to reliable transportation, and willingness and ability to travel within the CVOEO service area.

Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings.
