Aspen Power Catamarans based in Burlington, WA, has an opening for a Controller.
As a growth company with 45 employees this position will support many aspects of finance, accounting and support information for smart decision-making company wide. This position's efforts will be aimed at the day-to-day financial needs of a company with 70 plus vendors and 150-200 monthly invoices to be booked and paid. Our in-house bookkeeper does many of the first steps in this process, but this position will be responsible for carrying the ball to the finish line through Quick Books Enterprise.
We track our progress on a percentage complete basis, so monthly reporting closely reflects actual results. Taking complex tasks and adjusting the process for ease of work and smooth flow is part of this job's responsibilities. Gathering information and developing a weekly and monthly cash flow forecast will be needed. This position will support results reporting in all four segments of the company including our cruiser line of 28‑44 ft Power Proa Cats, our new lightweight Carbon Cat Tender line of boats from 9‑13 ft, brokerage business for pre‑owned Aspen’s and our service department.
Aspen’s products and customers are craftsman focused, we build semi‑custom boats where 90% of the typical boat has been built previously and 10% is specific to the buyer’s needs. Planning for the custom sections of the build, accounting/invoicing for the custom work as the boat builds is a key, yet difficult part of this position’s work.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or combination of school and equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 5 years work experience in a physical product manufacturing environment where you've work hand‑in‑hand with a production team who builds consumer products.
- Budget and Forecasting experience leading the financial strategy both short term and annually.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls and financial reporting standards.
- Advanced proficiency in Quick Books Enterprise.
- Solid understanding of accounting principles, finance and the ability to lead and train others.
- Monthly financial reporting, bi‑annual partner/BOD meeting presentations.
- Medical insurance, oversees team benefits and renewals.
- Fluent in English, able to walk a half mile briskly, climb in and out of tight spaces. Willingness to occasionally enter production areas to see — understand workflow.
- Be a US citizen or have legal paperwork to work in the US.
- Passion for the most effective efficient accounting system.
- Marine/boating experience - basic understanding of boating and its nomenclature.
- Passion for speeding workflow and labor efficiency while maintaining or increasing quality.
- Experience developing Gantt charts to track and make financial results visual.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, sort priorities and organize completions with little supervision.
- Leading a team, managing workflow, leadership experience managing teams or special cross‑function projects.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a bonus.
- Location: On‑site at our factory in Burlington, WA.
- Annual salary: $85,000 to $95,000 DOE
