Overview

Retail Associate is a position at Ross Stores, Inc. that focuses on delivering a positive shopping experience for Customers and supporting store operations.

General Purpose

The Retail Associate is responsible for ensuring our Customers have a positive shopping experience. The Associate greets Customers in a courteous and friendly manner, treats fellow Associates with respect, follows company best practices, maintains a clean work area, and ensures proper merchandise presentation. The role may include performing a range of functions in all areas of the Store as business needs require and may include additional tasks in specific situations to help achieve customer service and operational goals.

Functions
  • Safety is the number one priority; maintain awareness on the sales floor and ensure a safe, secure shopping environment. Keep egress clear and report unsafe conditions to Store Leadership.
  • Treat Customers and Associates with respect and courtesy; be friendly and professional at all times. Recognize fellow Associates using Company recognition programs.
  • Assist Customers as needed—across registers, with merchandise, and with questions in a polite, knowledgeable manner. Greet Customers with eye contact, a smile, and a greeting, and thank them during transactions.
  • Provide prompt responses to Customer Service calls and resolve issues courteously; involve Store Leadership when needed.
  • Represent and support the Company brand at all times.
  • Perform cleaning tasks (sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping, replenishing restroom supplies) and disinfect high-touch areas to maintain store and customer areas.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to the Company’s dress code.
  • Perform daily size and recovery tasks to keep the store neat, clean, and efficiently merchandised to standards.
  • Expedite newly received merchandise to the sales floor, merchandising items per company guidelines and maintaining brand familiarity within departments to assist Customers.
  • Understand Loss Prevention practices and merchandise protection standards; follow MOS policies for stock management and disposals.
  • Follow policies and procedures for cash, checks, charge cards, refunds, voids, and offline procedures; maintain accuracy when handling tenders.
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency to perform duties efficiently and align with Store best practices.

Qualifications And Special Skills
  • Effectively communicate with Customers, Associates and Store Leadership in a friendly, respectful manner.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to use all Store equipment, including PDAs, registers and PCs as required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the Store up to 100% of working time.
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop; ability to push, pull, and lift more than 25 pounds; use janitorial equipment and ladders as needed.
