The Burlington Public Library is accepting applications for a part-time Support Services Clerk. Tasks would include coordinating volunteer activities at the library, creating signage and fliers, posting on social media, taking responsibility for maintaining a pleasant environment for library visitors, and providing general assistance throughout the library.
Burlington Public Library is located in southeastern Wisconsin, with a municipal population of 10,980 and a service population of 19,500. We are a member of the SHARE Library Consortium, serving Racine, Walworth, Kenosha, and Rock Counties.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma/GED required; computer and social media experience required; customer service experience desired; experience in libraries desired.
Compensation:
Starting wage is $16.24 per hour.
Hours:
This position typically works 12-17 hours per week, including regular evening and weekend hours with some flexibility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Communicates effectively with library staff public works to ensure a clean and pleasant library facility.
- Coordinates, under management supervision, staff activities to maintain shared working and meeting spaces and outside walkways.
- Coordinates volunteers to meet needs for library activities and facilities, including volunteer groups like the Friends of the Library and the Burlington Garden Club.
- Works with library staff to ensure clear and consistent signage related to library collections, services, and programs.
- Creates engaging social media posts to promote library services, public programs, and general literacy.
- Provides in depth reference and readers advisory service to library patrons.
- Provides instruction in the use of library materials and services to library patrons.
- Coordinates with the technical services team to assure timely withdrawal of old materials.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Three years of public library experience or a minimum of two years of post-secondary education desired.
- Ability to create and maintain effective public relations and to deal tactfully with people of all ages.
- Ability to maintain an effective and collegial work atmosphere.
- Excellent level of English language oral and written skills.
- Computer experience required.
- Working knowledge of library methods, materials, and procedures.
- Ability to keep accurate records and to accurately follow procedures.
- Ability to communicate positively and effectively with the staff and the public.
- Willingness to maintain skills in above areas through active participation in continuing education.
Flexibility with hours; regular evening, weekend, and holiday hours.
