Our client, a well-established public practice accounting firm in New Westminster, is seeking an Intermediate Accountant to join their team on a maternity leave contract from January 2 to August 31, 2026.
This is a part‑time role (approximately 20‑30 hours per week, with up to 40 hours during peak season). Regular office hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There is also potential for the position to become permanent and full‑time after the contract period ends.
About the RoleWe are seeking an Intermediate Accountant to support the accurate and timely preparation of financial statements and tax returns. This role is ideal for a detail‑oriented professional with experience in public practice accounting who is looking to further develop their expertise in financial reporting and compliance.
The Intermediate Accountant will prepare journal entries, reconcile accounts, and play a key role in compiling information for corporate and personal tax filings. This position requires strong analytical skills, accuracy, and collaboration within a close‑knit team.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and file T1 and T2 tax returns, including supporting working papers
- Complete Compilation Engagements and assist with financial statement preparation
- Manage EHT, GST, PST, and other sales tax filings, ensuring compliance with deadlines
- Process and reconcile payroll, including remittances and year‑end reporting (T4, T5, T5018 slips)
- Assist with bookkeeping and general ledger reconciliations as needed
- Support clients with tax planning and respond to CRA notices or information requests
- Contribute to month‑end and year‑end procedures as required
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of tax legislation and accounting standards
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in accounting
- 2+ years of experience in public practice accounting (required)
- Experience with T1/T2 preparation, compilation engagements, and payroll processing
- Strong knowledge of GST/PST rules and filing requirements
- Proficiency in accounting and tax software (Case Ware, Profile, Quick Books, Sage)
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and problem‑solving skills
- Excellent communication skills with clients and team members
- CPA enrollment is not required
- Partial coverage of Dental and Extended Health Care
