Controller | Accountant Strategic Financial Leader | Entrepreneurial Environment | Forestry, Manufacturing & Industrial Operations

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Controller to join a growing and dynamic organization operating within the forestry, manufacturing, sawmill, logistics, and industrial sectors.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a senior accounting professional who enjoys working closely with ownership, influencing business decisions, and helping build financial infrastructure in a fast‑paced entrepreneurial environment. You are equally comfortable rolling up your sleeves to manage day‑to‑day accounting activities as you are providing strategic financial guidance and leadership.

As a key member of the leadership team, you will oversee all accounting and financial functions, provide meaningful business insights, support operational decision‑making, and help position the company for continued growth.

What You'll Do Financial Leadership & Reporting
  • Lead all accounting operations, including full‑cycle accounting, month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close processes.
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
  • Maintain strong accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Review reconciliations, journal entries, and financial records prepared by accounting staff.
  • Coordinate annual review engagements and liaise with external accountants and auditors.
Financial Planning & Analysis
  • Develop and maintain cash flow forecasts and liquidity plans.
  • Lead annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Analyze financial performance and provide meaningful variance analysis.
  • Support pricing strategies, margin analysis, and project profitability assessments.
  • Evaluate capital investments and provide financial recommendations on growth initiatives.
Treasury, Banking & Financing
  • Manage banking relationships and day‑to‑day treasury functions.
  • Prepare financing applications and support lending renewals.
  • Monitor loan covenants and lender reporting requirements.
  • Optimize cash management processes and working capital.
  • Coordinate foreign exchange transactions and manage currency exposure.
Compliance & Risk Management
  • Oversee payroll administration and related remittances.
  • Coordinate GST, corporate tax filings, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and provincial legislation.
  • Manage WorkSafeBC reporting and related obligations.
  • Support risk management initiatives and insurance renewals.
Business Partnership
  • Act as a trusted advisor to ownership and senior management.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support operational and strategic decision‑making.
  • Coordinate with external advisors including lawyers, accountants, banks, and insurance providers.
  • Work closely with First Nations business partners to support strategic initiatives, promote shared economic opportunities, and contribute to successful long‑term partnerships.
  • Participate in business planning and growth initiatives.
Systems & Team Development
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, efficiencies, and automation.
  • Support accounting software implementations, upgrades, and conversions.
  • Develop and document financial procedures and controls.
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and develop accounting team members as the organization grows.
What You Bring
  • CPA designation preferred.
  • 7–10+ years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience.
  • Experience with in manufacturing, forestry, sawmill operations, logistics, transportation, industrial operations, or other asset‑intensive businesses.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, treasury, trade finance, and internal controls.
  • Experience working within privately‑owned, entrepreneurial, or growth‑oriented organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate both strategically and tactically.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and relationship‑building skills.
  • Experience with accounting system implementations or software conversions is considered an asset.
  • Experience with Quick Books, Richmond Systems, or similar ERP/accounting platforms.
