Experience:
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the successful candidate will support the City’s financial operations and provide accounting, financial analysis, reporting, and capital financial management services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform and oversee accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, utility billing, taxation, cash receipting, and general ledger.
- Prepare monthly financial reports, reconciliations, journal entries, and variance analysis.
- Coordinate year-end financial reporting and the annual audit process, including liaison with external auditors.
- Maintain the City’s Tangible Capital Asset Registry and ensure accurate accounting for capital projects.
- Monitor capital project expenditures and ensure projects remain within approved budgets.
- Assist with annual budgeting, financial analysis, and budget presentations.
- Prepare required provincial, federal, and statistical reports and assist with grant applications and reporting.
- Develop and recommend financial procedures and policies and assist with financial projects.
- Work collaboratively with City departments to resolve financial issues and provide financial guidance.
- Maintain financial information for the City’s website and support financial communications.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Commerce, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related discipline.
- Possession of a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is an asset.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practices, preferably in a public-sector environment.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Municipal or public-sector accounting experience is considered an asset.
Hours of Work:
Monday to Friday – 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (37.5 hours per week).
