About the Role
The Governance Officer leads the day-to‑day administration of the Board of Governors and its committees. Working closely with the Board Chair, Board members, University Secretary, Associate Director and Board Assistant, the role manages the full governance cycle, including meeting planning, agenda production, materials coordination, minute‑keeping/resolutions and action tracking, ensuring confidentiality, timeliness and compliance with the BC University Act, applicable policies and related institutional procedures.
The Officer serves as the operational lead for the Board Manual (procedures, templates, guidelines) and for Board management software. The role also supports governance communications and partners with internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership and government officials, to continuously improve Board processes, policies and tools.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business, Public Administration, Policy, Communications or a related discipline. Five years of related experience in supporting a Board, governing body, or senior governance committees, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Strong knowledge of Canadian university governance (bicameral structures; Board vs. Senate roles; Board policy ecosystem).
Demonstrated knowledge of ethics, confidentiality, conflict‑of‑interest standards and applicable legislation/policy environments.
Advanced organizational and problem‑solving skills; ability to manage multiple cycles and deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to produce high‑quality briefing materials, coordinate complex meeting cycles, handle confidential matters and maintain official records.

The assignment end date is September 2, 2028.
The pay range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for the position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the pay range.
