Coordinate and support health, safety and environment (HSE) issues and initiatives in the field, as required by our operations departments throughout Canada. This is a site based, rotational shift position supporting active construction and maintenance projects across British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan, with potential support required for projects in Ontario and Eastern Canada.

Operating departments include overhead distribution and transmission construction and maintenance, underground distribution construction and maintenance, high voltage cable splicing, substation construction, distribution and transmission gas installation and related construction activities.

The successful candidate will be the visible HSE presence on assigned projects — working directly with crews, supervision, clients and subcontractors on the ground, and is expected to work rotations in remote locations and camp settings.

Pay rate: $40.87 – 50.49 per hour

Responsibilities
  • Field HSE support
  • Provide day to day, on site support to project crews, supervision and subcontractors regarding HSE guidance and assistance;
  • Compile, develop and maintain site and project specific HSE documentation for awarded work scopes, including site specific safety plans, emergency response plans and environmental protection plans;
  • Facilitate, review and coach on the quality of field level hazard assessments, tailboards and job safety analyses;
  • Assist as required in the identification and development of HSE related task specific safety documentation;
  • Perform workplace HSE inspections and audits; assign, track and verify corrective actions through to closure;
  • Stop work when there is an imminent danger to life and/or the possibility exists for a loss or damage to equipment and/or other facilities;
  • Monitor and support environmental requirements on site, including spill prevention and response, erosion and sediment control, wildlife and wildfire requirements, and permit conditions;
  • Support emergency response readiness for remote work, including muster planning, first aid coverage, communications and medical evacuation arrangements, and conduct drills.
  • Incidents, claims and reporting
  • Lead investigative teams in incident investigations including near miss and damage events, and complete reports within client and company timelines;
  • Make necessary revisions to the safety and health process to address changes in the work environment;
  • Field level supervision of WCB claim files, disputes, and return to work programs to facilitate injured workers back to their regular duties through a graduated work process;
  • Compile and submit site HSE statistics, inspection records and documentation required for client reporting and contractor compliance platforms;
  • Prepare a clear written turnover for the incoming Advisor at the end of each rotation so that open items, investigations and client commitments carry forward without loss.
  • Meetings, training and client interface
  • Attend and provide support for HSE related meetings including client facilitated meetings, project kick off meetings, safety meetings, weekly coordination meetings, etc.;
  • Represent Allteck to the client’s site safety representatives and participate in joint inspections and audits;
  • Assist with developing and conducting internal training courses including but not limited to mobile equipment, WHMIS, Certificate of Recognition (COR), Environmental, Confined space, Fall Protection, WCB Regulations, and various related training;
  • Deliver toolbox talks and orientations for new crew members, subcontractors and site visitors;
