Our program uses an innovative approach that focuses on specific skill development related to the job or training goal. Learning is in a classroom environment and consists of experiential group learning and one to one teaching.
Position Description
Reporting to the Director of Indigenous Skills 4 Success, the Trades Skills for Success Instructor will be responsible for the development and implementation of Skills for Success based curriculum, including Skills for Success lesson plans, evaluation processes, classroom instruction, one on one, and group-based instruction.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and deliver Skills for Success–aligned numeracy and trades-related curriculum, including lesson plans, instructional materials, and classroom activities
Provide classroom-based, one-on-one, and group instruction to support diverse learning needs
Establish and align student learning objectives with employer, industry requirements
Conduct formative and summative assessments to evaluate learner progress and outcomes
Track, analyze, and document student performance and statistical data, and prepare progress and outcome reports
Adapt instructional strategies to support learner engagement, retention, and success
Foster and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, clients and partners
Ensure a high level of confidentiality when handling student information and program data
Participate in program planning, continuous improvement, and curriculum enhancement activities
Complete required administrative and reporting tasks in accordance with organizational and funder requirements
Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications & Experience
Background working in the skilled trades sector; hands‑on trades experience is considered a strong asset
Skills for Success Practitioner certification with a minimum of two years’ practical experience delivering Skills for Success–based programming
Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous learners in employment, training, or adult education environments, with a culturally responsive approach to facilitation
Strong working knowledge of Trades Math and the ability to support learners with foundational and applied math concepts
Provincial Instructor Diploma (PID) or an equivalent combination of education, training, and instructional experience considered a strong asset
Experience in curriculum development, lesson planning, assessment, and adult education methodologies is a strong asset
High level of integrity, professionalism, confidentiality, and accountability, supported by strong interpersonal, coaching, and mentoring skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to engage learners, colleagues, and stakeholders effectively
Skills & Abilities
Proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team while delivering measurable results
Creative problem‑solver with the ability to think outside the box and develop innovative solutions to training and facilitation challenges
Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) and the ability to learn and embrace new systems
Adaptable to changing priorities and reprioritizing tasks to meet evolving organizational needs
Ability to pass a vulnerable criminal background check
