We provide comprehensive educational programs and services to a diverse population of 24,000 full‑time and 17,000 part‑time learners. The district operates 41 elementary and 8 secondary schools, plus a number of additional facilities.
PositionBurnaby School District invites applications from qualified teachers effective immediately for Adult Education Replacement Teacher (TTOC for Adult Education).
About Our Adult Education Program Foundations- The Foundations program strengthens basic skills in English, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science and Computers in preparation for both employment and further studies.
- Foundations courses are transition or bridging classes preparing students for regular Grade 10, 11, and 12 courses.
- Foundations English program covers seven core courses (Foundations English 1 to
7) and companion courses (Reading, Writing, and Speaking & Listening). - Foundations Social Studies program develops skills needed for further study in Social Studies 11, BC First Nations Studies 12, Comparative Civilizations 12, Geography 12, History 12, Law 12 and Social Justice 12.
- Foundations Mathematics program has seven core courses (Foundations Mathematics 1 to
7) and prepares students for mathematics at the Grade 10, 11, and 12 levels. - Foundations Computers program prepares students for a wide range of technology related courses at the grade 11 & 12 levels, including Business Computer Applications.
- Our High School Completion program offers Grade 11 and Grade 12 courses for adults (18 years of age or older). These courses can be used to complete high school graduation or as upgrade courses for academic subjects.
For High School completion and Foundations, your application should include your resume, cover letter, a copy of your BC Teachers’ Certificate, a copy of your transcripts, a copy of your TQS and indicate your subject preference.
Qualifications for High School Completion and Foundations Teaching Positions in Burnaby- Bachelor’s degree or academic equivalent in an appropriate field of study.
- Valid BC teaching certificate.
- Knowledge of a broad range of effective instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of all students.
- Knowledge of consultative and collaborative strategies.
- Successful, substantive teaching or practical experience in the relevant subject area.
