Instructor, Interior Design Certificate and Diploma; Learning
Position Summary
BCIT’s Interior Design Department is recruiting for temporary, part‑time Instructors to deliver Flexible Learning courses on a term‑by‑term basis in our Interior Design Flexible Learning Programs. Flexible Learning runs three terms in twelve week blocks:
September to December, January to March, and April to June, as well as a summer term from July to August.
- Instruct and help students learn.
- Provide academic assistance in a variety of learning situations.
- Facilitate and maintain creative and positive learning environments.
- Develop, modify, and continuously improve course outlines, curricula, evaluation procedures, and instruments.
- Prepare and maintain all course‑related records including evaluation, attendance records, and submit information as required.
- Identify, prepare and organize course materials and learning resources for course delivery.
- Relevant diploma or degree in Interior Design (or related field).
- Minimum five years of related current experience, with practical knowledge and experience in the residential and/or commercial design field.
- NCIDQ Certificate or be eligible and willing to sit for the exam.
- Professional member or eligibility for registration as a Professional in IDIBC.
- Demonstrated ongoing professional development in Interior Design.
- Hands‑on AutoCAD and/or Revit experience would be an asset.
- Hands‑on experience with Sketch Up, Photoshop and InDesign would be an asset.
- Excellent organization, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work within, and develop, a collegial environment.
- Previous teaching experience or formal instructor training (PIO, ISW, PIDP) would be an asset.
- Flexible availability.
Instructors are paid three hours per week per course. Course preparation, marking and student assistance time will be required outside of class time and are included in the three‑hour allocation.
