Position Summary
BCIT’s
School of Health Sciences is seeking a
temporary, part-time (0.1 FTE) faculty member to support curriculum development and instruction in digital design within the Prosthetics and Orthotics Program.
This position consists of two phases:
Curriculum Development (July 6–August 28, 2026) – 3.5 hours per weekInstruction (Aug 31-December 18, 2026) – 1.5 hours in-person classroom instruction + 2 hours course organizationThe successful candidate will lead the development and delivery of a digital design component integrated within PROR 1100, supporting students in developing foundational knowledge and applied skills in digital workflows for prosthetic and orthotic practice.
Duties & Responsibilities POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop curriculum and learning materials introducing digital design concepts relevant to prosthetics and orthotics, including: 3D scanning and shape capture Digital rectification workflows Prosthetic and orthotic device design (device architecture) Preparation of files for additive manufacturing (3D printing)Design and implement hands-on learning activities and assessments that build student competency in: iPad-based scanning Digital modeling and modification Device design and preparation for fabricationProvide instruction and student support in software platforms, including but not limited to:
Autodesk Fusion 360 Nomad SculptIntegrate digital design workflows with existing course deliverables, including application to the design and fabrication of a prosthetic or orthotic device for volunteer patient modelsDeliver classroom and/or lab instruction in alignment with program standardsEvaluate student performance and provide timely, constructive feedbackCollaborate with program faculty to ensure alignment with existing curriculum and clinical competenciesParticipate in program meetings and contribute to ongoing curriculum development initiativesQualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Degree or diploma in a relevant field such as industrial design, engineering, biomedical engineering, digital fabrication, or a related disciplineDemonstrated expertise in digital design and fabrication workflows, including: 3D scanning technologies CAD/modeling software (e.g., Fusion 360 or equivalent) Sculpting/modification tools (e.g., Nomad Sculpt or similar) Additive manufacturing (3D printing) processes and file preparationExperience teaching, training, or developing instructional materials in a technical or applied settingDemonstrated ability to translate technical concepts into practical, hands-on learning experiencesStrong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skillsAbility to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environmentExperience working in a healthcare, prosthetics, orthotics, or rehabilitation-related fieldFamiliarity with digital health technologies or clinical applications of 3D designAdditional Information
