Position Summary
BCIT’s
Centre for Workplace Education is looking for a
regular, full-time (1.0 FTE) Co-operative Education (Co-op) Coordinator to coordinate the full-cycle recruitment and delivery of co-op student programsand student work terms in relevant industry positions, evaluate co-op and work-integrated learning (WIL) outcomes, and support the ongoing academic development of co-op education programs.
Duties & Responsibilities DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Educating students in career planning through teaching pre-employment within BCIT course programming.Providing career counselling and guiding students’ reflection of on the job learning to support career development and explorationEvaluating student work experiences in co-op coursesEnsuring relevancy and quality of work terms through site visit check ins with students and employersAdvocating for students and mediating concerns as they arise in work termsInitiates, engages and supports the activities to bring awareness of co-op programs to admitted BCIT students in select programsSoliciting employers for new and recurring student employment opportunitiesMaintaining relationships with faculty, staff, students, external community and industry associationsParticipating actively in planning and development of co-op education and work integrated learning (WIL) programs and department activities for the Centre for Workplace EducationThe Co-op Coordinator must maintain communication with students, employers, internal program areas, industryoriented associations and others involved in the co-op education processwith a pan-institutional mindset. The successful candidate must also be able to work
flexible hours, at multiple BCIT campuses and travel on occasion. Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree; master’s degree is preferredMinimum of three years’ experience in a post-secondary Cooperative Education operating environment or five years’ experience in the employment services field dealing directly with clients and employers, or equivalentTeaching and curriculum development experience at the post-secondary levelKnowledge of post-secondary technology and trades programsExcellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal, listening and presentation)Planning, organization, coordination and follow up skillsDemonstrated knowledge of labour market trends, employer workforce needs, and industry practices relevant to student employment and work‑integrated learningDemonstrated communication skills, including the ability to influence across a variety of internal and external interested parties,Ability to proactively take initiative, contribute to program planning and continuous improvementDemonstrated ability to work independentlyClient service oriented and able to work collegially within a multi-union environmentProficient in computer applications including MS Office, learning management systems and placement databasesExtensive marketing experienceSelf-motivated and results orientedKnowledge of provincial, federal, and international employment and labour policies an assetA valid driver’s license and the use of a dependable vehicle is requiredAdditional Information
