Position Summary

BCIT’s Centre for Workplace Education is looking for a regular, full‑time (1.0 FTE) Co‑operative Education (Co‑op) Coordinator to coordinate the full‑cycle recruitment and delivery of co‑op student programs and student work terms in relevant industry positions, evaluate co‑op and work‑integrated learning (WIL) outcomes, and support the ongoing academic development of co‑op education programs.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Educating students in career planning through teaching pre‑employment within BCIT course programming.
  • Providing career counselling and guiding students’ reflection of on‑the‑job learning to support career development and exploration.
  • Evaluating student work experiences in co‑op courses.
  • Ensuring relevancy and quality of work terms through site visit check‑ins with students and employers.
  • Advocating for students and mediating concerns as they arise in work terms.
  • Initiating, engaging and supporting activities to bring awareness of co‑op programs to admitted BCIT students in select programs.
  • Soliciting employers for new and recurring student employment opportunities.
  • Maintaining relationships with faculty, staff, students, external community and industry associations.
  • Participating actively in planning and development of co‑op education and work‑integrated learning (WIL) programs and department activities for the Centre for Workplace Education.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree; master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a post‑secondary Cooperative Education operating environment or five years’ experience in the employment services field dealing directly with clients and employers, or equivalent.
  • Teaching and curriculum development experience at the post‑secondary level.
  • Knowledge of post‑secondary technology and trades programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal, listening and presentation).
  • Planning, organization, coordination and follow‑up skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of labour market trends, employer workforce needs, and industry practices relevant to student employment and work‑integrated learning.
  • Demonstrated communication skills, including the ability to influence across a variety of internal and external interested parties.
  • Ability to proactively take initiative, contribute to program planning and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Client service oriented and able to work collegially within a multi‑union environment.
  • Proficient in computer applications including MS Office, learning management systems and placement databases.
  • Extensive marketing experience.
  • Self‑motivated and results oriented.
  • Knowledge of provincial, federal, and international employment and labour policies an asset.
  • A valid driver’s license and the use of a dependable vehicle is required.
