Ballard’s Manufacturing Engineering team has an exciting opportunity for a Junior Manufacturing Test Specialist in our Burnaby, BC headquarters. As a Junior Manufacturing Test Specialist, you will be looking after the end‑of‑line testing (factory acceptance test) of our stack and engine product lines. Ideal Candidate
  • Solid understanding of testing, data analysis, mechanical design, and statistical methods.
  • Solid programming and database skills.
  • Enjoy hands‑on work with strong structured problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Bonus points for understanding of electronics, DFMEA experience, report writing and presentation skills, and Excel VBA, Python, or MATLAB programming skills.
Key Responsibilities
  • Ownership of production testing process for fuel cell stacks & engines
  • Supporting test station commissioning, troubleshooting, and qualification.
  • Data review and analysis of fuel cell stacks & modules in production setting
  • Test equipment troubleshooting for either mechanical or electrical systems.
  • Analyze data, assess conformity of a design to requirements and prepare appropriate reports and/or presentations to support your findings.
  • Present to internal and external customers
  • Work with internal lab equipment support teams to maximize data quality and equipment uptime.
  • Design, document, and implement new manufacturing processes for new products.
  • Identify, analyze, troubleshoot and carry out projects to improve existing manufacturing capability, yields, and capacity.
Qualifications
  • B.Sc. degree in Engineering Physics, Mechanical, Chemical, Materials, Fuel Cell, mechatronics, manufacturing engineering, or related Engineering program with 1-3 years of related experience
  • Ability to interpret test data and compare against design objectives
  • Familiarity with engineering tools such as design verification planning, tolerance stack‑up, structured problem solving, PFMEA and other manufacturing documentation.
  • Strong technical writing, data analysis (Excel, Power

    BI, VBA) skills
  • Programming experience in Python
Assets
  • Understanding of fuel cell stack and engine design
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Professional Engineering eligibility or certification

The typical hiring range for this position is $60,000 - $75,000. Ballard considers many factors in determining total compensation, including the successful candidate’s job‑related knowledge, skills, experience, position location, and internal equity.
