Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls Programmer – EIT

Job Description

AECOM's Water group is searching for an Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls Programmer – EIT of DCS and PLC programmer for a large capital project of a highly integrated Industrial Control Systems (ICS) in the wastewater treatment industry. Experience in the application and startup of industrial process controls is required.

• Design and specification development for SCADA, DCS and other controls systems (including low voltage such as telecommunications, CCTV and security) focused in low voltage applications mainly.
• Design and specification development for controls and instrumentation systems with focus on SCADA & DCS systems.
• Design and specification of instrumentation and process control devices for various processes including water/wastewater treatment and other light industrial applications.
• Develop and implement industrial control systems configurations, graphics, databases and other connected systems.
• Participate in the implementation of advanced software applications and automatic control strategies.
• Participate in simulations, testing and commissioning of process control applications.
• Participate in troubleshooting and resolving system issues.
• Assist in the team achieving engineering deliverables (e.g., drawings and specifications) comply with applicable regulations, standards, corporate procedures and sound engineering practices.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and 2+ years of related experience with DCS and PLC programming in a plant process or manufacturing environment, or a two year technology diploma in controls or instrumentation with 4 years applicable experience in DCS and PLC programming.
• Membership or eligibility for registration with EGBC as EIT is preferred.
• Knowledge of, and experience with, operating systems such as Microsoft Office Suite and related support systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Good working knowledge of, and experience with, current applicable communication protocols.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills; initiative and independent decision-making.
• Ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings and descriptive control narratives.
• Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions and regulations applicable to the position’s area of work.
• Willingness and ability to undertake additional training relating to the duties of the position.
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and access to a vehicle.
• Willingness to work at different sites within the Metro Vancouver region.
• Familiarity with control systems such as DCS (Delta V, ABB 800xA, Siemens Simatic7) and PLC systems (Rockwell, Schneider, Siemens) and SCADA systems development and integration.
• Familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code (NEC or IEC exposure is an asset).
• Proven leadership qualities or experience to manage and lead work of small design teams.
• Proficiency in DCS or PLC programming and SCADA development is an asset.
